A brisk winter evening greeted Napa/Sonoma branch members on Saturday, December 17 at St. Helena’s world renowned Meadowood Resort for our annual Christmas Gala.A brisk winter evening greeted Napa/Sonoma branch members on Saturday, December 17 at St. Helena’s world renowned Meadowood Resort for our annual Christmas Gala.
The huge fireplace was roaring and Vintner’s Room was beautifully decorated for the holidays that got everyone in a happy Christmas mood. DJ Jason Ruderman played Christmas music during our arrival. Our menu for the Gala was created by Meadowood’s 3 Michelin Star Chef Christopher Kostow and was a truly unique gourmet experience.
The evening began with a reception featuring four fantastic passed Hors D’oeuvres: Dungeness Crab, Mint, Cucumber; Ahi Tuna Tartare, Avocado, Lime Gaufrettte Potato; Wild Mushroom Vol-au-Vent; Chicken Satay, Plum Chutney; paired with 2010 Mumm DVX Sparkling Wine and 2012 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay.
Dinner followed accompanied by music for dancing starting with Poached Maine Lobster, Charred Salsify, Meyer Lemon, Creme Fraiche, Caviar; paired with 2014 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay. Next came Risotto, Foie Gras Emulsion, Black Truffle; paired with 2012 Wrath San Saba Pinot Noir. Our entree was a choice of Lamb Loin, Spiced Eggplant Tahini, Persimmon or Halibut, Cauliflower, Almond Butter, Capers; paired with 2005 Flora Springs Trilogy, Napa Valley and 2006 Ernie Els Signature, South Africa. And finally for dessert, Citrus Black Sesame Tart, Poached Pear, Belle de Brillet Ice Cream.
A variety of great music had members dancing up a storm throughout the evening. The Chef and staff at the resort did a fantastic job that made this event a memorable Holiday celebration. Member Fred Rijke made the arrangements for the evening.
